A Little Bit About Ken Sweet

I am a classical homeopath. I studied at the Scottish College Of Homeopathy. My wife and I moved our family from San Diego To Scotland in 1986. I got a job at a ferry boat company that sailed between Hunters Quay and  Goureck. During one of the sailings I talked with

someone that was studying at a phytotherapy college. This is the study of using plants for healing. When we were talking I thought that would be something I would like since I have always been interested in medicine. The shifts were long so I did not get much time for that.

During one of the crossings the captain hit the pier pretty hard. I was thrown against a pole on the stairway and broke a rib. I was off for 6 weeks. Since I loved to read and was close to the local library I looked for some books on phytotherapy. During this time I read all the books on Phytotherapy  that they had. While searching for another book to read I came across a homeopathic book. That was a game changer for me. Homeopathy was something that was so different than any other type of healing. It seemed it could treat anything. The process of making the remedies is dilution and seccussion of the chosen substance. This can be made from plant, animal or mineral substances. The amazing thing is the remedy during this process the substance becomes less and less but in that state it becomes more potent.

This process was used by Samuel Hannamann over 200 years ago. He was a doctor at that time. He was frustrated by the treatment people were receiving. The method of treatment at the time was giving stronger and stronger doses of the crude substance often to the point of killing the patient. He started treating people with diluted substances. He started with chicona bark that was used for the treatment of malaria. He diluted and seccussed  chicona bark, it is diluted and banged on a hard surface 100 times then diluted and banged again another 100 times this dilution is continued for different potencies.  This was more effective than just using the crude substance. This seems like a crazy idea. He tried it on himself and found that by taking it he developed the symptoms of malaria. He came up with the term like cures like.

I found the Scottish College Of Homeopathy and started attending in 1994. It has been quite an adventure. Now more than 30 years later I am still learning so much everyday.

One fascinating thing is the disease process. This is charting the patients life and how they got where they are today. This includes life style, sickness, difficulties, the twists and turns we face daily. These are the things that shape us and make us who we are. They can be things that make us stronger and also things that weaken us so we get sick. Matching the remedy to the person at his point in time, Hannaman called it  like cures like, taking the similar remedy can make them better.

Choosing one of the over 4,000  proven remedies can be daunting at times. The symptoms are matched with the remedy. The reaction of the diluted and secussed remedy on the body is different than the crude substance. The body seems to only handle one thing at a

time. The reaction to the homeopathic remedy is stronger than the crude substance so the body suspends the current reaction and changes focus to the homeopathic remedy. The remedy is self limiting so when it wears off the original complaint is no longer there. Acute illness can be fixed quickly but chronic illness can take longer.
